Great DIY gift: Wine beanies or I’ll call them Wineys…

A while back I had to make DIY Chirstmas gifts for Mother&Child Magazine. I had so much fun creating these, so I thought I’d add them to my gift ideas for this Christmas.

I just love DIY Christmas crafts! The idea of thoughtfully making something for someone with love, warms my heart. As gifts, the challenge for me was adding some gifts that people actually want and not only use on Christmas day so something not necessarily Christmassy that they will want to use during the whole year.

Enters my first idea:

The Benefits of Chess for Kids’ Development *Guest Post*

I started showing my 6 year old twins a move or two and quickly realised that they could do much more than we think. George Harrolds of Kaoori Chess sets is going to tell us more about the benefits of chess for kids’ development.

Top 5 Ways to Help Your Child Improve Focus *Guestpost*

Top 5 Ways to Help Your Child Improve Focus *Guestpost*
Top 5 Ways to Help Your Child Improve Focus *Guestpost*

In this digital era, it is easy and affordable to purchase the latest gadgets and gain access to technology. One often finds children riveted to tablets, smartphones or a computer screen, engrossed in playing games, or their attention is glued to the television set. Studies have shown that the usage of gadgets can cause children to have a limited attention span. Such habits lead children towards a sedentary lifestyle from a young age. This can cause multiple health issues, both physical and mental. It also affects children’s reasoning power, the capability of thinking logically and hampers their creative mind. Initiating children into a sports activity or helping them inculcate a hobby or enrolling them in a creative / performing arts class can serve as a great motivation for kids to break the monotony of their usual routine and spend some time doing something fun and creative.

Here are my top five ways to help your child to improve their focus.

Yes I am still going strong whoop whoop!!! and yes I am still mostly sugar free… apart from one or two cheat days I have been sugar free for 27 days now! I almost can’t believe it myself, I even said no to cake that my 12 year old niece baked and felt terrible for it but I am happy to say I stayed strong and I am no longer binging on sugar.

Flash Cards and Poster Free!!

Flash Cards and Poster Free!!
Flash Cards and Poster Free!!

This one is A3 size but you can set your printer for A4 if you wish to print smaller size. I highly recommend that you take the high res file (10MB) to a printer and print out 2 copies of the A3 and laminate both. The one is for the wall as a poster and the other can be cut in the middle of the green lines to make flashcards.

The smaller file (250kb) can be printed A4 without quality loss but might be too small for a poster and way too small for flashcards. The low res A3 might be a little less on quality but still ok if it doesn’t bother you.  Read the rest of this entry

It’s human nature to remember the bad more vividly than the good – it’s how we evolved to make sure we stayed safe – by remembering those negative experiences vividly so that we could avoid them in the future.

However, with the advent of massive connectivity, negativity now surrounds us from every direction….and it’s pervasive.  Turn on the television, tune into social media, or pick up a paper and you’ll typically be bombarded with negativity.

My Declutter Schedule

My Declutter Schedule
My Declutter Schedule

I wrote this post about Decluttering your brain way back when and also this one about Dealing with Toy Overload, but honestly I am still figuring out how to declutter my life! Being the little crafter that I am, I keep almost everything because I constantly think I should be able to do something with it.

Well I have a whole new schedule planned so I am getting to the end of this madness…

I have to admit, that first morning after I wrote this post I woke up thinking’ “What have I done? Why did I do that?” I had a feeling of impending doom… like failure was sure to follow, but now, 6 days later I am still hanging on so I guess I’m really doing this!

So there was a few things that really dragged me down and I knew those things would have to be addressed first.

What did I change…
