Make Laundry Day Fun for the Whole Family + Free Printable! *Guest Post by Emily Gibson*

Make Laundry Day Fun for the Whole Family + Free Printable! *Guest Post by Emily Gibson*
Make Laundry Day Fun for the Whole Family + Free Printable! *Guest Post by Emily Gibson*

When you were growing up, what was your favorite chore? Washing the dishes? Mowing the lawn? Laundry? Hearing the words “favorite” and “chore” in the same sentence sounds almost impossible to achieve, however if you start involving the family in the chores, the chores can become less chorelike and more fun for the family.

Kids of any age can get involved during laundry time, there’s a task for everyone. There’s so much temptation to take on the burden yourself because you believe it will be faster or easier, but you deserve to regain some time and put those extra (little) hands to use.

There are so many learning opportunities that can be provided through this as well. For our smaller children we can have them start organizing and sorting clothes by color or pattern. As the children get older we can involve them in other areas of the laundry process. When our children are elementary age they can be involved in the folding and organizing of the completed laundry. Our teens can even start doing laundry loads of their own, the key is to start them off early in the process and integrate it into their daily or weekly routine.

10 Steps to Determine the Reading Level of Your Child *Guest Post*

10 Steps to Determine the Reading Level of Your Child *Guest Post*
10 Steps to Determine the Reading Level of Your Child *Guest Post*

The average American reads 12 books a year. That’s one book per month. However, not everyone is able to determine the appropriate reading level of their child, so a lot may not be reading what they should at their level.

It is also very vital that you understand the essence of determining your child’s reading level before introducing them to any complex reading materials. Yes, it feels good to see your child’s nose in a book, but it will always be best to let them enjoy what they can while learning.

Skrif Oefeninge 1

Uiteindelik kom ek uit by my Skrif Oefeninge reeks!

My Life is a House

My Life is a House
My Life is a House

I recently took a longer (yet still only 8km) run than I’m used to as I’ve been increasing my distances over time. In that time I had an epiphany about my life in the light of Covid lockdown. I started seeing my life as a house. I am currently in a house… theres breathing space and there’s windows and doors, and I am able to open and close doors and windows as I wish.

GetFit Series #6

This week I finally started doing some extra weight training, sit ups, push ups, rope jumping etc. that I’ve been wanting to do for a while. I’ve noticed excess skin forming in certain areas and wanted to start toning a bit. It’s been a challenge though… the small cottage that we are in on the farm has little space for exercise unless I want to try it on the stones and thorns outside, so i have had to train in the bathroom as the only place to hook my feet for sit ups… yes… theres a toilet behind me in that photo!

I am pleased to say that I am still getting fitter and have lost 10kg by now, slowly but surely in spite of lockdown. I am fortunate to be “stuck” on the family farm with lots of open space to run… I don’t take this for granted at all in spite of my despondency about the extended lockdown for South Africa and I know how blessed I am when I consider the small spaces the largest part of our country has to endure. I guess I just wish I could get some new clothes as mine are starting to hang like sacks.. but hey… first world problems I guess!

Wow… it’s been exactly a year to the day since I started this series and even though I haven’t blogged about it recently I am surprised that I am still going strong. I am super proud and excited to say that I have lost 6,5kg this year since I started getting my life back.

It’s been a roller coaster of note emotionally, I’m not going to lie to you but the physical work has been easier than I thought it would be. A few things have changed since my last entry and a few things have not changed at all, so let me break it down for you…
