I previously wrote this review about the 123 counting App from Xander. Today I’ll share my thoughts on the Shapes & Colours game.
Just like the other Xander Apps, this one is an educational app available in Afrikaans, English, Zulu, Swahili or Xhosa. It teaches the six basic shapes and the primary and secondary colours with games that encourage kids to learn with vision, hearing and touch. I would say this app benefits kids 2-3 most but 4+ that still needs to learn to draw easy or difficult shapes like a star, heart etc can still benefit from this feature of the game.
The app opens in a beautiful window with a welcome message from the cute and friendly T-Rex called Xander. This is your home page and from here you will choose your game.
Throughout the game, friendly messages are presented with a smiling Xander.
The first game is primarily about getting to know the shapes and gives you the option to tap on the shape you wish to view. The cute voice of Xander comes up with the name of the shape, a beautiful picture of the shape and the word written on Xander’s speech bubble.
The second game has the same objective as the first, just with colours. Tapping on a colour will give you a picture, the spoken names and the written word in Xander’s speech bubble.
The third game is always our favourite… the drawing game. In this one, tapping on the shape will give you the spoken name and then you have to draw the shape.
The fourth game gives you puzzle pieces to drag to the right places.
Another one of our favourites is the matching memory game which is the fifth game. Shapes and colours are mixed up for kiddo to find.
Lastly there’s the association game where shapes are identified by dragging the right shape into the option given.
Overall we are very happy with this app, Enjoy!
Keep an eye on this series of reviews… Xander apps will be giving away this cute plush toy of Xander in the end so stay in tune!
