Here’s a frugal idea for making a cheap dollar store clock into an expensive-looking work of art. You can buy a basic clock for cheap and change it into this elegant gift.
What you’ll need:
- Basic clock
- Transfer Glaze
- Paint for when the colour of the rim does not match the print
- Image printed on inkjet, it can be graphic or personalized
- Bowl of water
Instructions:

Unscrew the bottom of the clock and remove the clock hands carefully by pulling out the center pin first and then the rest of the hands.
The cheap clocks have basic colours so if you need something soft, paint the rim of the clock to match your print.
Print an image of your choice that has dark and vibrant colours. The transfer comes out lighter than the print.

Soak the print upside down in water for 20 minutes

Whilst the print is soaking, paint a layer of Transfer Glaze onto the surface of the clock that you want to cover… be careful not to paint the numbers on the clock. Dry for 10 minutes and repeat at a right angle.

Once dry, place the soaked print face down onto the transfer glaze and press firmly to smooth out any bubbles or water drops.

Carefully rub off the white paper with your fingers to expose the print. Don’t rub too hard or you’ll remove the whole print.

Put the hands back into place and re-assemble the glass and rim.
You’re done!
Pin it for later!
